Maybelline City Mini Palette Review & Demo

I have seen so much hype over the Maybelline City Mini Palettes. I can’t lie, the packaging was very intriguing. It took me months to debate if I should give in and buy it. The palette itself is very small, it retails between $7.99-9.99 and you get 6 shades so the shades are priced approximately $1.33 per shade. I picked up the “Urban Jungle” palette which has various shades of greens. This is perfect for the fall season and would favor those especially with brown or green eyes.

First impressions…

These shades are extremely hard to blend, they have the same formula and consistency of their other eyeshadows. It seems like the same exact thing only packaged in a more appealing and eye-catching pattern. The colors are very beautiful in the palette, but there are two shades that are very similar to each other. The gold shade barley shows up on the eyes. You MOST DEFINITELY need setting spray to make these shades even show up, the dark black shade and the matte green shade are the only colors that actually shows up without it. I would have to say those two performed best on the eyes, but were still hard to blend. The other green/gold shimmery shades did not show up at all with a dry brush or finger. The white shade is extremely powdery and chalky, I thought it looked horrible as a brow- bone/inner corner highlight. The shade is way to pale to begin with, the other 5 colors are warm toned and deep- a champagne or off white color would have been a much better match for this palette. Like I said, I honestly believe they threw shades they already had into this palette. The only unique shade to me was the black that had small green glitter particles in it- but the glitter fades away in short time.

Above are shades on the tan part of my arm and my inner arm, I wanted you guys to see how differently they show up on different skin colors. The pictures above are with and without flash. I attempted to re-create this look and removed one eye with makeup remover and re-set it with concealer, powder and primer. It still did not come out the same, it made the shades even more hard to blend and the gold color didn’t really show up at all- even with setting spray. I’m not sure what the makeup wipe had to do with it exactly but it did not apply the same afterwards.

Final thoughts…

If you can find any of these City Mini Palettes on sale I believe it would be worth it. I personally think these are overpriced for drugstore eyeshadows, there are many better options with higher quality priced the same or even lower. I’ve noticed drugstore brands raising their prices increasingly over time, I thought maybe they were changing the formulas a long with it but honestly most of the products have the same formula and aren’t worth the hype. Comment below your opinion of the Maybelline City Mini Palettes, have you tried this one or a different one?

NEW Colourpop Concealer, Pressed Bronzer & Highlighter Review

EVERYDAY.

FOR ONE MONTH.

A YOUNG WOMAN WAITED FOR THIS PACKAGE TO COME IN THE MAIL.

AND THAT DAY HAS FINALLY COME 🙂

Hi loves! Today I have a very exciting post for you all, I am SOOOO excited! I hope you all are as well (: I have been waiting ever so patiently for a month to receive my most recent Colourpop haul in the mail, I went allllll out for their new collection. I pretty much have everything except for their collabs which I believe were sold out at the time and I am also missing their new amethyst setting sprays which I really wanted to try. 😦

I bought two concealers with the intention to use one for a full face of concealer without foundation so I could test the coverage to the best of my ability and the second concealer I purchased was intended to be used for contouring. After seeing the word “intended” a few times I’m pretty sure you guys get where I’m going here….. My plan simply did go through the way I hoped.

The shades I purchased were light neutral and medium 30. When Colourpop sent the full collection to influencers it appeared to oxidize on camera and many of them had to use lighter shades because of that reason, so during my purchase I bought shades slightly lighter as well. This was not a good idea… the shade light neutral was extremely pale and didn’t get darker on my skin. The shade medium 30 was MUCH lighter than I anticipated it to be and was actually a close match to my regular skin tone, so it would definitely not work out as a contour shade. I ended up using the shade medium 30 as an all around face conceal and light neutral to brighten up under my eyes and conceal blemishes.

These concealers shocked me…

I used the Real Techniques buffing brush to give it a natural finish, when I usually use this technique with foundation it does not cover my blemishes, well this concealer covered my blemishes (a red one at that) while using the buffing brush. I was SO SHOCKED. I then used light neutral on specific areas and under my eye with a flat, dense concealer brush by It Cosmetics and the coverage was amazing! My face was looking pretty pale but the coverage was full just using a $6 concealer, it did not appear cakey, it did not feel heavy, the consistency was out of this world. I don’t want to call it out yet, but this could be a potential dupe for the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer which was literally sent from the heavens! I did a wear test on this for 5 hours and my skin did get oily, but it wasn’t too bad for being outside in humid weather. I’m EXTREMELY IMPRESSED.

The pressed bronzers and highlighters…

Are out of this world. For the amazing price point of $8 you get the most adorable travel friendly (not sized) packaging that includes a decent sized mirror! Sayyy what! The texture and consistency of the bronzer in “Rodeo Drive” was smooth, the formula is amazing and can be compared to a high end product. Rodeo Drive is a cool toned bronzer with a medium red-brown undertone. This easily fixed my pale face and gave me a healthy coloring that matched the rest of my body. The highlighter “Boy Next Door” is described as a “light warm gold.” The shade was absolutely stunning with the bronzer, they sat on eachother so beautifully. When initially touching it, it feels powdery and chalky but on the skin it’s stunning, there are bits of glitter particles but I happen to love that look. I’m sure many people won’t like how it feels but I think if it looks good on your skin- that’s all that matters.

The question I keep asking myself…

Why did I wait so long to try out these amazing pressed eyeshadows? The pigment is extreme! You barley have to tap your brush into the pan and you have a bold color on your eyes that blends like a dream. I KNOW I will save so much eyeshadow because you don’t need much at all. I got the shades (in order pictured left to right) cannonball (a matte burnt orange,) crisscross (a matte brick orange,) popular demand (a matte red-brown), and stay golden (a matte raspberry). I also got a super shock shadow in the shade sequin (a rose penny copper.) I got each shade for $4 ($1 off) and received a free magnetic palette to put my shades in (: I believe they always give a free palette with the purchase of 4 pressed eyeshadows.

Overall 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’m beyond satisfied with my purchase, I bought so many things and loved each and everyone of them. I usually don’t like every single item I buy but I loved them all. Even though the concealers were too light I think I can find other ways to put them to use. The formula for everything is amazing and goes well when all used together. If you plan to purchase concealer don’t be afraid to go a bit darker if you have a light-medium skin tone similar to mine, both shades I bought from the light and medium section on their website. I might do another haul soon and pick shades from the medium dark section to match my skin and the dark section for contouring. Please comment your thoughts below and if there are any items that have intrigued you on their website list them below so I could include them in my next haul.

Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Palette Review and Swatches

It has been nearly two months since the highly anticipated JACLYN HILL X MORPHE palette was released. I purchased this after it was sold out so I’ve played with this palette for a good month now.  There has been HUNDREDS of mixed reviews on this palette,  many beauty bloggers shaming it on purpose and many Morphe affiliates claiming to love it. So what does that leave the average joe to believe?

Like all of the average joe’s out there, I was torn between what to do. Should I purchase this palette, it seems like a good deal right? You get 35 uniquely pressed shades for $38, but then after you add the shipping charge of nearly $8 the palette goes up to $46 before taxes. You can use an affiliate code but in this situation it would only save you about $4 anyway. You can get a higher end palette for the same price in stores and not have to wait for it at all! The downfall to that is that it won’t have 35 shades, but hey maybe you won’t use all of them anyway.

The other alternative is that you can spend over $70 to stock up on makeup or gifts and use an affiliate code for 10% off. That’s the route I took with this, I got a palette for myself and gifted another. If you’re a beauty blogger (which I wasn’t then) you can purchase multiple and do a give-away!

So my thoughts on this palette…

IT’S FREAKING AMAZING!

fullsizeoutput_a87

The hype is well earned! I know many reviews can come off bias because of all the affiliates and bloggers getting free items. I am un-affiliated, not sponsored in anyway and paid for this with my own hard earned money like the rest of you. ANDDD I honestly love the palette. It wore exactly the same on my eyes for nearly 13 hours through rain and humidity! I was so surprised!!! I have the 35F palette by Morphe and it does not wear long at all but this palette did. Jaclyn did an amazing job on how it was packaged and I believe thats what made the wear time last so long.

The shades in this palette don’t feel as buttery-soft as they do in the other Morphe palettes. The shimmers don’t appear to be as shimmery as the other palettes, but that is easily fixed if you apply it with your finger and press it on or use and setting spray or water on a flat shader brush or heck, even with your finger! The mattes in here blend very easily, the only problem I had with this is that they can easily be washed out in the crease. A trick I learned with them is to apply certain colors you don’t want to get washed away with a dense brush, yes even in the crease. I typically use soft brushes in the crease but with this palette I go back in with a dense brush to make the colors pop. My favorite shade Cremescicle in this palette is one of those shades so if you’re having issues with that one getting washed out try that tip 🙂 When I first tried this palette and noticed shades getting washed out I was a bit bummed out but you just have to learn the right technique to apply the shades and they come out beautiful. And to everyone complaining about the palette being white and getting dirty, it comes right off with a makeup wipe 🙂

This palette no doubt is one of a kind, 35 shades of warm and cool tones with unique pops of color- thats something I’ve never seen tied into one palette. All I can say is Jaclyn slayed as she always does ❤

Fast and Affordable makeup for back to school or work

This is for all my hardworking students and workers out there on a budget! Those no makeup days for summer are now past us and school/work is back in session.

Let’s face it ladies, we don’t have hours to get ready before school and work. Most of us are in a rush and only want to spend 5-20 minutes on our makeup. However, makeup brands are making this harder by consistently releasing new makeup items that create extra steps in our routine. Yes, I’m talking about things like face and eye primers, liquid drops, highlighters, liquid highlighters, palettes, etc.

I recently filmed a Youtube video specifically for this topic, I had all of these affordable eyeshadow palettes in front of me but I just couldn’t choose which one I wanted to use. A lot of us have so many different items that before you know it you’ve already spent 10 minutes trying to figure out what eyeshadow colors you want to use and from which palette!

So as I was filming I got the idea to use the bronzer/blush duo from e.l.f that cost only $4 and used it as my eyeshadow too! I used the bronzer in my crease and the blush on my lid and it came out pretty good. I also went in with a NYX pencil stix to make it more metallic and topped it off with the highlighter that I used for my cheek bones. All of this took a total of 3-5 minutes (if that) and I didn’t have to go searching for my eyeshadow. If your a fan of matte shadows, you don’t have to go in with that last step of using the highlighter on your lid. Or if you’re the opposite and a shimmer lover like me, ❤ you can just go in with the highlighter on your eyes and skip the bronzer/blush.

The highlighting brick I used by Makeup Revolution was only $7 and comes in a layer of multiple colors. The top half is lighter while the bottom half is darker, but all shades are white, pink and brown. I used the lower half as my bronzer and it can even be used as a blush while the white color can be used as the highlight. These are amazing multi-tasking products from the drugstore 🙂 that would make any students life much easier when getting ready!

“No Makeup-Makeup”

So what is the “No Makeup Makeup” trend exactly and does it really look like you’re not wearing makeup when it’s all said and done??

Well today I am putting this to the test.

Since I live in an extremely high humidity environment I usually don’t wear heavy makeup during the summer, but I never thought wearing light makeup would become a trend. Is mascara and eyeliner excluded? Can you still bronze up the face? Are only nude colors allowed? What do most people consider this trend to be??

For years I used to only wear the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer with no liquid foundation and Bare Minerals face powder over it. It actually looked all natural, as if that was really my natural skin. Well it’s sad to say but those days are now over, there came a point where buying $30 concealer every 2-3 months for a college kid just wasn’t in the budget anymore.

I changed over to drugstore makeup where I fell in love with the Maybelline Matte and Powerless foundation, it kept my skin matte but didn’t leave me looking matte. It still gave me a natural, hydrating finish and it didn’t break the bank. I used this in my “No Makeup Makeup look” video along with the aqua water infused bronzer/blush by elf, highlighter, and some bronzy eyeshadow. I made sure to use a bronzy-shimmery eyeshadow close to skin tone to make it all look natural. I did press pressed powder into the face to keep my face from turning into a grease ball throughout the day (I have extremely oily skin and live in the South) do others consider this breaking the rules from a no makeup look?

Is this what you would consider a no makeup look? Do you guys think I achieved this by the video &/or picture?? Please comment down below and share you’re opinion on this trend 🙂 I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Please watch my video, like, subscribe 🙂
